Almost everywhere in North Alabama will be seeing first frost tonight; if not tonight than tomorrow night when it will dip into the 20’s. This is fairly early for us but not unheard of. My peppers — the last of the annual summer vegetables — have blooming and putting on new growth, but this is the end of the line for frost tender crops.
When frost threatened a few days ago I picked all the decent sized peppers. Today I picked the plants clean: an additional 8 pounds of baby bell peppers and 1 2/3 pounds of small banana peppers. Look for By The Numbers posts for peppers coming soon.
